We started out today from Rodriguez Bay in Key Largo where we have been anchored for the last few days waiting out a weather window. We survived the 20-30nm winds at anchor without any real problems. We of course were on constant vigilance in watching for a dragging anchor. We did drag some but we had so much room to move around in the bay it was ok, so we left it alone for the night. This morning the weather improved enough for us to start our track down to Miami. The Atlantic ocean was a little rougher than the Gulf had been but not that bad.
Since we left Tampa on Jan 29th about 1 week ago we have travelled none stop about 300nm in total Longboat Key Jewfish anchorage, Boca Grande to Marco island, Little Shark River in the Everglades to Long Key Matacumbe Harbor, Key Largo in Rodriguez Bay and then today was Key Largo to Miami. We navigated over half of Florida in one week and we are not done yet.
Tonight there is another storm coming through Miami, just a minor 25-30nm wind for the night. Tomorrow is suppose to be 25-35 with gust up to 40nm, man can a girl get a break around here. . Well I guess not, is just starting raining in Miami. So that means a rough night and possibly another rough ride tomorrow. I am still tired from last night, did not get much sleep getting up to check that our boat was still in the same location, every 1-2 hours, not to mention the rocking of the boat in the storm.
We are currently tied to a mooring in front of the Miami Yacht Club, so far so good. It is very different here than in Rodriguez Bay, last night we were in a very large bay in a very quite area, not much of a town near by. But tonight we are surrounded by people, boats and buildings, city noise is what I am hearing right now. Miami has a lot of party boats filled with people drinking and having fun. There is also a lot of money here, the boats are all yachts and the homes are skyscrapers. Home to the rich and famous Miami yami.
Here are some photos of today while we were coming into Biscayne Bay, they were having several regattas:
