Batteries and chargers are very important in the life of a cruiser. Today our lives just got a little better with the addition of a new battery charger.
The boat originally came with 2 small batteries (2) 140 amp hours and a moderate charger of 40 amp. We upgraded the batteries to AGM 540 amp hours total which was great, but the charger was unable to keep the new batteries topped off, so we would have to run the engine for 2 + hours a day to keep the batteries charged.
So today Brad installed a new battery charger with 90 amp, so we should now be able to keep the batteries in top shape with just running the generator and new charger.
Next season we will be adding solar panels and then we will be doing fabulous with minimal need for recharging the batteries. We are also going to get a small portable water maker. Both the solar and the water maker will make our lives on the boat so much simpler and comfortable.
Brad did a great job with the installation, it was not a straight forward situation, he had to create new wiring connections etc., very complicated stuff, but he did it. Amazing Grandpa!
