Today will be the beginning of the end of our trip
There are a variety of reasons that we will be leaving the boat. First and foremost the boat is broken; it has a variety of problems and we do not know even to what extend at this point in time. Just to mention a few: bad batteries, charger, generator, solar problems; basically something in draining the boat's energy. Shore power does not work and an electrical panel is malfunctioning. So we are not so sure as to the safety of the boat. Another factor about the departure is that we are not getting along on the boat. The Captain is a control freak, he manages every aspect of every thing we do on the boat. There are so many rules: like no sand in the boat, no water in the boat etc. We can not move without him telling us how to do it. And he does not like us either; we are too strong headed, we have opinions and it is not our first day on the boat. We have experience and plenty of it and he does not want to hear any of our suggestions. Instead he just tries to figure out everything himself, which he does not know how to do. Anyway it has been very frustrating for all of us including him. As we speak we are sitting in a hotel in Panama City waiting for the boat to get fixed, when we received an email from the Captain stating that this arrangement is not working and he would like us to leave the boat, so that is what we will do ASAP. We are stopping at the rainforest on our way back then out of there we will be. It is very disappointing to say the least but probably better for all involved. We had expected from him more then he could deliver. We had asked him to live up to our agreement of having our family members come on the boat for 2 weeks out of 4 months on the boat, and that was too much for him to handle. There is a reason he is living on the boat in the middle of no where, answering to no one, A hermet lifestyle in a nomad world, this allows him to be very superficial in is relationships with people. We had seen this trip as a God send and we still do. We have learned alot about cruising and ourselves. We will get our own boat and do it our way. In fact we may stop in Florida to see a boat we like "Sailing La Vie" a 410 Catamaran. It may end up being our new boat, we shall see what God has planned for us. C'est La Vie, what will be will be!!
