Second Season has begun on Sail La Vie
Left San Diego just before El Nino hit our home in Carlsbad. It's been raining for days, flooding our streets. But we were as prepared as we could be with 20 sandbags surrounding the house and 3 neighbors watching it for us. We have only had a couple of minor mishaps since we left, the first one involved my new painting of Big Sur. Yes it was a wet oil painting and yest it did fall on it's face, so we asked one of our neighbors Shannon to go over and pick it up for me. And she did but she put it back on it's stand, which proceeded again, so it is still laying on the floor of the kitchen. Perhaps Hannah will pick it up the next time she goes to the house, but it is safe for now on the floor. Then the next day Shannon called us and said that our garage door was part way open and asked us if we knew anything about it. And of course we did not, so she again went over to check it out and the house was ok, so she figured out maybe one of her kids pushed the garage door button. Kids will be kids after all. Anyway so far the house is safe and sound. As for our Florida home on Sail La Vie, it took us about a week to get unpacked and provisioned for the trip. Buying 3 months of food is quite the job and we are not done yet. Then by the time we got that done it was time to take the boat to the shop to get it's seasonal repairs. This time it is the through-hulls, which is very important since they are the holes in the boats and if they are not repaired and break off, they can sink the boat. Just a minor detail, so we decided it was better to be safe then sorry. BOAT as you know means "break off another thousand", every time we turn around we are needed to fix something on this boat. It had better settle down soon or we will need to sell it and cut our losses. But for now we wait for the repairs to be done and hope that it does not cost a fortune. While we are waiting we took another road trip, this time to Florida's East coast. Yesterday we went to Coco Beach and Cape Canaveral. We spent most of the day at the Kennedy Space Center and it was very interesting. So far we have conquered the moon, next is Mars. The rocket to Mars will be ready in 2018 for an unmanned trip, then comes the 4 person trip to Mars on Orion. They are in the process of building a very powerful rocket called the SLS to get the Orion to Mars. I will attach photos of our day at the Kennedy Center.
